Product Description
Close shave - Lift & Cut system shaver.
The Philips HQ130 is a cordless battery shaver that gives up to 60 minutes cordless shave.
If you used a different shaving method before (e.g. a razor blade) and have just acquired a dry shaver from Philips, your skin requires some time to get used to your new shaving method. Your skin may become slightly irritated and feel sensitive after shaving but after a few weeks, your skin will have become used to the new shaving method. THis shaver is ideal for travelling.
Philips HQ130 2-Head Travel Shaver With Unique Lift and Cut System Review
I ordered this since I was disappointed with essentially throwing out perfectly good Norelco shavers and their non-replaceable (at least easily replaceable) spot-welded AA-type rechargable NiCad batteries. When the batteries no longer hold a charge, it costs almost as much to take the shaver into a service center and get the batteries replaced as it does to get a new model. You can do this yourself, but it is not easy as 1-2-3.I didn't want a foil shaver, so I compared the Philips Norelco HQ40/33 Shave on the Go Battery Razor, which is from 2006/2007 and this model, which is from 2008 as per the Norelco website. I couldn't find any differences other than design elements, so I contacted Norelco to find out more. The representative said it simply was a newer model and there were no differences. I also looked at a rotary shaver from Flyco, no longer available on Amazon.
I placed my order on December 5th for the HQ130 and received it on December 15th, well in advance of the projected delivery estimate of Tuesday January 3, 2012 - Tuesday January 17, 2012. Since this ships from England and I'm in the USA, I was very pleasantly surprised.
This shaver operates on two AA batteries, rated by the manufacturer for 60 minutes, and I'm using the supplied Philips Powerlife Alkaline AAs. I plan to use the Sanyo Eneloop AA Ni-MH pre-charged rechargeable batteries going forward. There is no case provided, but there is a protective cap (that does not stay on as well as it should) as well as a cleaning brush. There is no hair trimmer.
I still have my old Norelco 6863XL Reflex Plus Shaver, and the HQ130 shaves just as close, although the heads are different - the 6863XL uses the HQ55 heads and the HQ130 uses the HQ4 heads. Shaving takes a bit longer with two heads as opposed to three, but that's to be expected. The shaver is very small (4" L x 2.5" W x ~1" D) and very quiet - quieter than the 6863XL.
So far, so good and recommended.
