Go Light RadioRay LED Portable Searchlight with Wireless Handheld Remote, Magnetic Shoe,Black Review

There are Many different models of GoLights and sometimes items listed on Amazon are Not listed with the correct model number, or misrepresented by the Wrong photo, that is why I am specifying the Exact Model number. I purchased the “GoLight 79514 LED Portable Radioray w/Magn Shoe - Black”. First of all, I did Not purchase this item from Amazon, as I was able to find it for nearly forty dollars cheaper on a different website. However, since Amazon also offers this light far Below MSRP, I figured I would post my review here as well.
This light was designed to be temporarily mounted to your vehicle by one of TWO different methods. 1) Built in Suction Cup on bottom of the light...or 2) The magnetic horseshoe sleeve that slides onto the base of the light, which in turns attaches to your Metal Vehicle. GoLight states that this light is NOT meant to be mounted to the top of the vehicle while driving down major streets or highways; but instead to be used during recreational driving or while driving off road in dark conditions. Basically, they don’t want you to think that you can drive 70 mph down the road and expect the light to remain on the top of your vehicle. I have personally driven over 45 mph with the light mounted to the top of my vehicle. The magnetic mount that comes with the light seems pretty strong and stable, so I think I would actually trust it to stick even if I was driving 70mph.
This light is Extremely bright. The manufacturer states that the lifespan on these LED bulbs are 50,000. Even though this light is NOT the Brightest light that GoLight sells, it is still Plenty bright and draws ONLY 3 amps from a 12 volt source. This is important, because if you go with the brighter lights that they sell, the bulb life is significantly shorter and they will draw 5.5 amps. If you have a Big battery and keep your car running, drawing 5.5 amps might not bother you. However, if you want to be able to run this light for longer periods with your car turned off, you will appreciate the 3 amp draw over the 5.5 amp draw.
This light shines a pretty concentrated beam very far. Of course the farther the beam is directed, the more it opens up and spreads out. However, I would estimate that at 50 feet, the beam is only 5 feet wide, and at 500 feet it is 40 feet wide. These are just guess estimations; However, this light is Extremely bright at close distances, as well as Far distances. I would say that you can Effectively light up an object the size of a small house from a distance of 1,000 feet. Again, this is an estimate, but I was shining this light on houses several city blocks away from my location, and I could easily see if someone was standing outside on the front porch. Basically, you will need binoculars or “eagle eyes” in order to see past the effective range of this light.
The cord that is attached to this light is approximately 6 feet long, with plenty of length to reach from the top of your hood to any 12 volt outlet in your vehicle. This light also comes with a remote control that directs the angle and rotation of the light. This light will rotate 370 degrees around its base (this basically means that you can rotate a complete rotation from the straight forward position and then an additional 10 degrees past the original position you started from. However, if you wanted to rotate the light to position beyond the additional 10 degrees, you would have to reverse the light in the opposite direction and back track. In other words, this light Can Not make Multiple 360 degree rotations around it’s base.) Also, the light tilts 135 degrees from top to bottom. You can Almost shine the light from a straight forward position, all the way back behind you. The remote control comes with two miniature 12volt batteries to provide power. I wish it came with AAA batteries, but at least they provide the first two that you need to get you going straight out of the box. The remote control is advertised to control the light from a distance of 100 feet. I was able to successfully operate my light using the remote control from a distance of Greater than 100 feet away.
This light appears to be pretty durable, even though its outer casing appears to be made of some hard plastic. The light also comes with a carry handle on top of the light. I have Not tested the integrated suction cup feature on the bottom of the light, but I can attest that the magnetic shoe that it slides into is sufficient enough to hold the light to the roof of your car while traveling nearly 45mph. All in all, I am Very satisfied with this light. The company that sells these lights appears to design and sell most of their lights to EMS, military, first responders, and firefighters; so this should give you an idea of the type of quality that they are built to. There weren’t very many other competitors out there that I could find, or reviews to read about. However, I am glad that I bought this light and would Highly recommend this light to anyone who could afford the price tag. Again, this light shines an effective beam to at least 1,000 feet and only draws 3 amps of 12 volt power, and is controlled from over 100 feet away with a remote control. Pretty cool if you ask me!
